What is ChauffeurPlan?

ChauffeurPlan is a specialist driving licence insurance policy for motorists who need to stay on the road and in the driving seat. It provides vital financial assistance, allowing you to continue with independent travel should you lose the use of your car through disqualification, personal injury, a car accident, theft or vandalism.

How long has ChauffeurPlan been around for?

ChauffeurPlan has been keeping drivers motoring in the UK since 1971.

Who Underwrites ChauffeurPlan?

Every ChauffeurPlan policy is underwritten by Isle of Man Assurance Limited (“IOMA"), IOMA House, Hope Street, Douglas, Isle of Man, IM1 1AP. IOMA is authorised by the Isle of Man Government Insurance and Pensions Authority.

Who is eligible for ChauffeurPlan cover?

Applicants must be aged 21 or over and hold and have held a current, valid, full UK driving licence for a period of at least 2 years. In order to be covered for totting up disqualification benefits you must have no more than 7 points on your licence actual, possible and/or pending when you apply. However, when the penalty points are down to 7 points with no prosecutions possible or pending you will then automatically be covered against disqualification following the totting up of future penalty points.

Does your driving licence insurance cover only apply to the UK?

Injury cover is worldwide while car hire and emergency travel benefits apply throughout Europe. Disqualification benefits only apply for UK driving convictions.

If I have previous driving convictions will this affect my cover?

No. Provided that you have 7 or less points on your licence actual, possible and/or pending, when you apply you will be eligible for full ChauffeurPlan cover.

Are there any exclusions or excesses under the policy?

All exclusions and excesses are detailed in the policy wording, a copy of which is freely available. However the main exclusions include:

Loss of Licence: disqualification as a direct result of drink or drug related offences or for dangerous, careless, reckless or inconsiderate driving.
Car Hire: fire, mechanical fault and breakdown.
Injury: medical conditions or illness.
